A was combing through the NY Times searching for articles about the Choking Game and found, ‘Choking’ Game Deaths on the Rise, where I noticed the reader comments. Ash N.’s story is how death from the Choking Game happens when played in groups. Although, an increasing amount of kids are playing alone which is immensely more risky. This story is so sad and our hearts go out to Ash.

I turn 23 this coming Friday and I remember playing this game when i was about 9… yes, I was only 9. I was always hanging around older kids since my brother was my idol. One day he had a group of friends over when my parents were supposed to be gone for about 8 hours. He was 13 at the time. His friends all the same age. I remember one of them suggesting a game called “space rider”. He pulled out his belt and asked if anyone wanted to play. When no one came forth he said he’d go first. He took several deep breaths and then he had someone choke him with the belt. he woke up a while later and that was supposed to be evidence that that was fine, not dangerous, but fun! My brother went next. I was sitting back the entire time. Even though I was only 9 I knew there was something not quite right… When my brother tried it he took longer to wake up and every one just thought he would wake up soon. After a long while he was still laying on the ground. Someone checked his pulse and found that his heart wasn’t beating. He wasn’t breathing either… Upon realizing that he was dead, his friends all left the house in a frenzy. I called my mom and she told me to call the hospital. He was already gone by the time anyone checked his pulse… My mom died thinking he killed himself… if I had one wish i would bring him back…”
